The Foothill Theatre Company ushers in the holiday season with Little Women, Louisa May Alcotta(EUR)(TM)s warmhearted coming-of-age story which became an instant American family favorite when it was first published in 1868. Background of the Play : Commissioned by the Foothill Theatre Company, this play was adapted by local novelist and FTC Affiliate Artist Sands Hall, and premiered on the FTC Mainstage in 1999. The play has been subsequently produced by the Woodland Opera House, the Ukiah Players, Wellesley Summer Theatre in Massachusetts, and by the Portage Performing Arts Center in Portage, Minnesota, as well as a number of high schools and colleges around the country. Along the way, carolers will lift their voices in joyful song, and the sounds of music will usher in the holiday spirit. Storytellers and crafters will take visitors back in time as they experience how holidays were celebrated in the past. In the Gingerbread House of Santaa(EUR)(TM)s Workshop, children can have their photo taken while visiting with St. Nicholas and engage in arts and crafts activities. Children can also play in the snow and build snowmen at this yeara(EUR)(TM)s new Snow Land. Santaa(EUR)(TM)s Workshop will also include a stage with various musical and theatrical scheduled performances. The Annapolis Youth Chorus ushers in the holiday season with a concert at St. Annea(EUR)(TM)s Episcopal Church. Under the direction of Laurie J. Hays, The Annapolis Youth Chorus (AYC), presented by Live Arts Maryland, includes nearly 50 young voices from private and public schools throughout Anne Arundel County. This year, under the batons of Mrs. Hays and Jill Woodward, the Concert Choir, Senior Choir and Chamber Choir serve up a heavenly host of holiday songs, from the ancient Latin chant a(EUR)oeCantate Dominoa(EUR) and the 15th century a(EUR)oeThere is No Rosea(EUR) to "Santa Baby" to the jubliant "Let All the People Say Amen!" Joining the AYC for this concert is Bowie High School student David Dickey on oboe and Ken Kimble on percussion. The group is accompanied by Carolene Winter and Ken Kimble. The Annapolis Youth Chorus, now in its eighth year, engenders in young singers a life-long love of music through an enriching choral experience that combines fun with solid musical training. The AYC is open to all students aged 6-18 years with unchanged voices, regardless of race, religion or creed. The group has appeared at the Opening Ceremonies at the Volvo Boat Race and Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival, at a Bowie Baysox game, where they sang the National Anthem, and at many local events and gatherings, including the Statehouse by Candlelight holiday event. In June 2006, the group made its Carnegie Hall debut under the direction of John Rutter. The AYC also appears each season with the Annapolis Chorale and Chamber Orchestra. The Mission Dolores Basilica Choir will perform its 17th Annual Candlelight Christmas Concert, a stirring and inspiring experience that promises to be the perfect way to usher the Christmas season.

The beautiful acoustics of the Basilica will enhance the sounds of the internationally renowned choir, the resident community choir of Mission Dolores. Mission Dolores Basilica is adjacent to Mission San Francisco de Asis, one of the twenty one California Missions established by Father Junipero Serra in the 18th century, and the oldest building in San Francisco.

Under the direction of conductor Jerome Lenk, the concert will feature John Rutter's Gloria, Medieval chants, and carols from Russia, Venezuela and the Philippines.

Auxiliary Bishop William Justice of San Francisco expressed great admiration for the choir. "Their artistry is unparalleled among choirs in San Francisco," says the former pastor of Mission Dolores Basilica. "Their Christmas concerts are "must-see" events, as they are one of the best ways to evoke the joy and spirituality of the season," he adds.

This popular and well-established 50-strong choir will perform seasonal choral pieces by Palestrina, John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen, Peter Warlock and Bruckner. All of the Cathedral's 3 children's and 2 adult handbell groups will perform Christmas music from through the ages from traditional Scottish carols to popular French, German and American Christmas melodies. There will also be much audience participation with a chance to join in singing several well-known carols led by the choir, brass, strings, woodwind, keyboards, handbells and percussion. And there will be coffee and mincemeat pies in the hall following the performances.

Stirling City Choir first formed in 1866 as Stirling Choral Society, which was incorporated into Stirling and District Choral Union when it formed in 1951, and in 2002 the name was changed to Stirling City Choir in celebration of the new city status of Stirling. Performances by this choral group have included many well-known major choral works including Haydn’s “The Creation”, Elgar’s “Dream of Gerontius”, Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”, and the Requiems of Brahms, Verdi, Faure and Mozart. They have also included more contemporary works and have twice sung in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall with composer Karl Jenkins, in performances of his “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” and his “Requiem”. Dunblane Cathedral Handbell Ringers own and perform on Scotland’s largest sets of handbell instruments. Since formation in 1977 Dunblane Cathedral Handbell Ringers have made 15 television appearances, 22 radio broadcasts, travelled over 35,000 miles throughout the UK to give over 650 performances from Exeter to Inverness, won the only UK-wide competition open to all 1000 handbell groups in the UK, shared stages with 14 well-known orchestras, bands or choirs, performed in 9 different countries, produced 3 commercial recordings and been featured on those of 2 other groups, and raised many thousands of pounds for numerous charities. They have been selected to perform at national showcase concerts of the Handbell Ringers of Great Britain on 4 occasions, performed in 5 international symposia, organised 4 Scottish Festivals, hosted 25 overseas groups, organised 19 seminars, supported the formation of 75 handbell groups in Scotland, and organised 4 residential ringing weeks for ringers from around the world. Notable performance venues have included Scotland’s major concert venues such as the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, Glasgow City Hall, and Dundee’s Caird Hall. They have performed alongside many celebrated soloists such as Donald Maxwell, Linda Ormiston and Peter Morrison.

Claw Like Things, a newly conceived three-piece band out of NE Minneapolis, is a ménage-a-trois of heavy, jazz-laden rock. If you've ever wondered what it would sound like to infuse Flamenco inspired rhythms with a Pixies sensibility and then kick into Miles Davis style waltzes with indie rock charisma, then the night of December 5th, their EP release date, should be the night to find out. Minneapolis’ own Kid Dakota lends a hand to this young band by singing on one of the tracks and mixing it in its entirety at his prestigious Shortman Studio.

Claw Like Things’ Latters of Opportunity EP is a disk rich with Tom Waits style storytelling embellished by swinging hard rock melodies. In addition to the mixing of the record, Kid Dakota will also be headlining the release party that is to be held at 400 bar. Lance Conrad (The Alpha Centauri), engineered the record at Humans Win and will be working the soundboard at this event.

Filling the bill is Mines, a relatively young band with a sunny disposition dressed in infectious, sometimes melodramatic pop that can usher in an audience partial to Sonic Youth or Rilo Kiley. The energetic Action Versus Action, with their melodic and playful guitar-a-thons, will also grace the stage. And lastly, Kid Dakota will chime in with guitar and drum driven arrangements for the already emotionally charged pop songs of Mr. Darren Jackson. The unbridled energy and non-stop rock of this event will make for an extravagant departure from weekday pub shows.
